Health and Safety in the Salon

A 6-hour online course on the health and safety rules that apply to salon work in the United Kingdom, explained clearly and step by step.

Overview

This course covers the health and safety rules that apply to salon work in the United Kingdom: the law and who is responsible, hygiene and infection control, chemicals and waste, risk assessment, and first aid awareness. It is made for people working in salons in the UK who want to be sure they are doing things correctly — not to memorise theory, but to know what the rules actually expect of them day to day. The course is in 6 modules. The course walks you through how to complete a salon risk assessment, a COSHH assessment, a decontamination record and a first aid provision record. Each module ends with a short knowledge check, and the course ends with a final assessment. The course is taught in English. About 4 in 10 of the lesson blocks also carry a Thai, Vietnamese or Chinese translation; the rest are shown to you in English. We tell you this here so that you can decide before you buy. The proportion above counts lesson blocks only; it does not describe the knowledge checks or the final assessment. The same rule applies to those item by item: a question is shown to you in English unless a translation of that question has been reviewed and published. For any question whose translation has not yet been published, you will need to read that question and its answer options in English. Once an assessor has reviewed and approved the work you submit, you receive a course completion certificate issued by Taitam-D Academy London, with an online page where the certificate can be checked. The certificate records that you completed this course with us. It is not a regulated qualification and it is not awarded by an external awarding body. The certificate is issued in English. To receive it, your profile must include your name in English (Latin letters); you can add or change this at any time before you finish the course. A course certificate is not a licence to practise. Employment and any local licensing requirements are set by employers and by the authorities in the country where you intend to work, and are outside our control. We recommend checking the requirements that apply to you before you enrol. The 2 pieces of work you hand in The certificate for this course is issued after an assessor has marked your work. You hand in 2 pieces: 1. A completed written risk assessment, using the Risk Assessment worksheet in Module 4.4 2. A short written response, set in Module 6 You hand them in inside the course, on the Assignments tab — you upload your files there, and your result and the assessor's written feedback appear on the same page. If a piece of work is marked not yet competent, you may change it and hand it in once more. Finishing the lessons and the knowledge checks on their own does not earn the certificate.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get a certificate?

Yes — but the certificate is not issued the moment you finish the lessons. You submit 2 pieces of work: a short written response to a scenario, and your completed Risk Assessment worksheet from Module 4.4. An assessor replies within 5 working days. Once your work passes, the certificate is issued. If it does not pass, you get 1 chance to revise and resubmit, which adds time. The certificate is issued by Taitam-D Academy London with an online page where it can be checked. It records that you completed this course with us. It is not a regulated qualification and it is not awarded by an external awarding body. It is issued in English, so your profile must include your name in Latin letters — you can add or change this at any time before you finish.

How long does it take, and is there a deadline?

The course is about 6 hours of study. You choose your own pace and there is no deadline to finish.

Which language will I be studying in?

The course is taught in English. About 4 in 10 of the lesson blocks also carry a Thai, Vietnamese or Chinese translation; the rest are shown to you in English. We tell you this here so that you can decide before you buy.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. You may cancel within 14 days of the day we approved your payment, without giving a reason, and get all of your money back with nothing deducted. To cancel, email info@taitam-d.com quoting your order number — your cancellation counts from the day you send it. We refund within 14 days of you telling us, back to the account you paid from.

Is this course about UK rules specifically?

Yes. It is written around the rules that apply to salon work in the United Kingdom, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and COSHH.

How do I pay?

Payment is in pounds sterling (GBP) by card or bank transfer. We do not take payment in other currencies. If you pay from outside the United Kingdom, your bank may add its own conversion fee.
